Softball was first played in the United States in 1887. The sport is a variation of baseball and was originally conceived as a way to play baseball indoors during the off season. Eventually, softball evolved into a separate sport all its own. Many of the rules are different from those of traditional baseball, chiefly:
1. The diamond is smaller.
2. Pitching is strictly underhand.
3. The ball is larger.
There are many other details that distinguish softball from baseball; however, the uniforms and apparel have remained somewhat similar over time.
Ever wanted to know some cool info on the history of paintball? The first game ever played was in 1981. The game was between 12 friends and was played on a 100acre tract of land. Thats huge by todays standards. Before that the paintball gun (at that time called a marker) was used to "mark" property, trees, and even cows.
The first games didn't include any of the protective gear that we wear today. No headgear or anything. Ouch!
